Life sentence dropped for mum-killer after plea to stay inside

By Danielle McKay From: The Mercury February 26, 2010 3:31PM

What are these? A MURDERER who stabbed his mother 38-times with a knife has had his life sentence dropped after serving 20 years in prison in Tasmania.
The Mercury reports the market-garden labourer, who was 17 when he killed in 1990, does not wish to leave prison because of concerns that he may kill more people if allowed out.

Chief Justice Ewan Crawford placed a restriction order against the man, detailing that he continue to be detained in the prison's psychiatric unit.
The order will keep the man, a paranoid schizophrenic, in custody until he is well enough to be released.

The man stabbed his mother 38 times with a 20cm knife following a heated argument at their Granton home.

"The Grim Reaper arrived and he told me I should kill her,'' he later told police.
"You know she is Satan's daughter.''
During the man's original trial the Supreme Court heard he sometimes roosted in a pine tree and claimed to be a chicken.

His defence that he was not guilty by reason of insanity was rejected by a jury and he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
A subsequent appeal failed.

Chief Justice Crawford said the man had received treatment for his mental illness including medication and had shown slow and gradual signs of improvement, but had a long way to go before his release could be contemplated.
"He does not wish to be released from where he is," he said.
"He has developed an intense fear of the world outside and has expressed concerns that he may kill more people if allowed out.''

Ausie News 5 : It won't be easy - but SA can be 100% green

A VISION of the state powered by 100 per cent renewable energy is no fantasy, says a visiting German expert.

Dr Harry Lehmann, from Germany's Federal Environment Agency, has more than 25 years of experience in sustainable energy policy.
He is in town for the state's first Clever Green Conference and Showcase in the Adelaide Convention Centre.
Tomorrow, he will lead a workshop "sketching a 100 per cent renewable electricity supply model for South Australia" at the invitation of Renewables SA.
Dr Lehmann helped convince his own government that a future powered by 100 per cent renewable energy was not only possible, but desirable, considering the rising cost of fossil fuels.
"It is clear energy will be more expensive in the future, whatever scenario you take," he said. "If you take a fossil fuel (scenario) and you don't introduce any renewables, then you will have even higher energy costs."

A combined power plant would link and control wind, solar, biomass and hydropower installations to balance out short-term fluctuations in supply and demand. The project is a clear demonstration of a mix of technologies that serves to silence critics who claim renewable energy is unreliable.
"It reminds me of the days when the people didn't believe that an aeroplane can fly," he said. "As long as you don't see that it flies, you don't believe the science behind it. And that's the same with renewables."
Renewables SA board member and key independent adviser to the State Government Monica Oliphant said she invited Dr Lehmann to Adelaide because she was "sick of hearing solar and wind are intermittent and could never provide reliable power here".
"Let's start now, moving towards the 100 per cent renewables goal," she said.

Premier Mike Rann said SA was on track to achieve a goal of 33 per cent renewable energy by 2020, with close to half the nation's wind power capacity and 20 per cent of residential grid-connected solar panels.

Dr Lehmann said it would be possible to achieve 100 per cent renewables by 2050 if planning started now.

Dr Lehmann will give a free public lecture in the Centenary Building at UniSA City East Campus tomorrow at 7.30pm.

my opinion :
GO GREEN!!
If there is a way to cut down the usage of fuel, why not we give it try. Our next generation will have to pay the price for what we had done. Our world is dying and we have to start now to save it....~_~

Toyota recalling Prius in Japan for brakes

TOKYO – Toyota is recalling nearly 200,000 of its signature Prius green cars in Japan for braking problems, the latest in a string of embarrassing safety lapses at the world's largest automaker.

Toyota Motor Corp. president Akio Toyoda will hold a news conference at the automaker's Tokyo office later Tuesday to outline details of the braking problem, including plans for a possible recall in the U.S., a company official told The Associated Press.

The number of Prius gas-electric hybrids being recalled would swell to about 300,000 if there is a recall in the U.S. and other regions.

The braking problem for the third-generation remodeled Prius is the latest safety woe for Toyota, which is already trying to fix problems in millions of vehicles recalled for other defects, including a sticky gas pedal.

Mike Michels, a spokesman at Toyota's U.S. headquarters in Torrance, Calif., would not confirm a U.S. recall, but said the timing of any U.S. recall announcement "would be the same as in Japan." A U.S. Department of Transportation spokeswoman said Toyota had not informed it of any recall.

Toyota officials went to Japan's Transport Ministry to formally notify officials the company is recalling the 2010 Prius gas-electric hybrid — the world's top-selling hybrid car — and two other hybrid models.

In total, the recall involves over 223,000 hybrid cars. Toyota will recall nearly 200,000 Priuses sold in Japan from April last year through Monday, according to papers the automaker filed with the ministry.

There have been nearly 200 complaints in Japan and the U.S. of drivers experiencing a short delay before the brakes kick in. The delay doesn't indicate a brake failure.

A fix requires new software that oversees the controls of the antilock brakes, the papers say.

Toyota had earlier said a fix was already in cars in production starting late last month, but it was unclear if the recall includes those cars as well.

The two other hybrids being recalled are the Lexus HS250h sedan, sold in the U.S. and Japan, and the Sai, which is sold only in Japan. The new software for those models is still being worked out, Toyota said.

"We have decided to do a recall," said Hiroyuki Yokoyama, a Toyota manager, as he handed papers for the recall to a government official. "We will do our best to regain customers' trust."

Toyota's plug-in hybrid is also being recalled in Japan — a largely experimental model for rental and government use, with 159 sold.

U.S. safety officials have launched an investigation into problems with the brakes.

The problem is suspected in four crashes resulting in two minor injuries, according to data gathered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which is investigating the matter. Toyota says it's cooperating with NHTSA's investigation.

Toyota is in the midst of recalling more than 7 million vehicles worldwide because of problems with floor mats, which can trap gas pedals, and faulty gas pedals that are slow to return to the idle position. The 2010 Prius wasn't part of either recall.

Problems with hybrid braking systems haven't been limited to Toyota. Ford Motor Co. said last week it plans to fix 17,600 Mercury Milan and Ford Fusion gas-electric hybrids because of a software problem that can give drivers the impression that the brakes have failed. The automaker says the problem occurs in transition between two braking systems and at no time are drivers without brakes.

The Prius is Toyota's top-selling model in Japan, but not in the U.S., where the company sold 140,000 last year, far less than the 357,000 Camrys. But it holds a cherished spot in its lineup and is symbolic of Toyota's leadership in the "green" car market.

Toyota was one of the first companies to mass-market a hybrid that combines an electric motor with a gas engine, introducing the Prius in Japan in 1997. Its high gas mileage made it popular among environmentally conscious drivers, especially when gas prices spiked two years ago.

But the complexity of the Prius, a highly computerized car, has led to problems in the past. In 2005, the company repaired 75,000 of them to fix software glitches that caused the engine to stall. It has also had trouble with headlights going out.

In an op-ed Tuesday in The Washington Post, Toyoda said the automaker was working hard to regain the trust of customers.

"We are taking responsibility for our mistakes, learning from them and acting immediately to address the concerns of consumers and independent government regulators," he said.

"Whatever problems have occurred within our company, the strength and commitment to fix them resides within our company as well."

Don't Don by Super Junior......english translation......~_~

If it’s the end just like this, if there’s not a chance

It means everyone else was wrong

In a comedy-like world

It disgusts those who can’t smile

Don't Don, it's a world all about money

You, confined in a hole

What is your mind

You outta control

What is your mind

Please look around

You can see the gazes of despair

Stop bangin' my head

My eyes gone red

Growing further away

A world content as it is

A world happy with what it already has

Even if the dreams

Leave one by one

It doesn't change

The world is mine

I'm the law of this world

While they waited to become happy

Just before anyone else, I grabbed the chance

I have no consideration for those who are weak

Even if my flame burns everything up

I can't give up

It's not for them

If it's for the world of our children

But don't be so bitter

It's not me

The world made you that way

I get everything I want

Even if the world shuns me

Closing my eyes and ears

Causing disarray

Needing only adequate brains and a little money

Even if my flame burns everything up

I want to protect

If it's for my child

Having to live until the chaos is over

Don't Don, it's a world all about money

You, confined in a hole

What is your mind

You outta control

What is your mind

Please look around

You can see the gazes of despair

Stop bangin' my head

My eyes gone red

Don't Don

Just stop it now

And take off your hypocritical mask

Take it off, your fake mask

Everyone is waiting

Don't throw away the last wish

Toss it away, your fake mask

p/s : thanks to qila who introduce me to 'him'....haha...now i kind to forget who's KH.....haha ~_~

10 years.....change and the unchange....

10 years is quite long....
10 years have 240 months.....
240 months have 3650 days....
3650 have 87600 hours....
87600 hours have 5256000 minutes....
5256000 minutes have 3153360000 seconds.....

we didn't notice how time pass by in a flip of seconds...
i wonder what had happen in this 10 years....
is there anything significant to remember....
hm...
i'm very bad in flash back....
i remember when i was three or four, i think, i wake up and found out that my parents was not home....
my brother and i search for them every where in the house....
including under the table and sofas....haha...and then i cry....my brother too....after minutes pass, my parents got home and saw us crying.....they hug us to calm us down....~_~

at my first day at the kindergarden, i was bullied by a girl, she kept on pinching me....
at the end, i cried in class, and the girl was scold by the teacher....
at that time i just think that i want to go back....
how funny it is, after that day the girl who pinch me is my best friend at kindergarden.....hahaha~_~

i remember my first day as standard one student, i was placed at the last class....
well actually there were too many standard one student entering the school.... so they just put us into the classes and held an exam to shuffle us back....~_~

when i'm in standard 2, i was chosen as a school prefect, the teacher call me and my friend Nik Farwina, if i'm not mistaken, to accompany the teacher to the toilet....i just follow her and so was my friend.....guess what happen in the toilet...the teacher told us that both of us that we were chosen as the school prefect....good news in toilet ~_~

then, in standard 3, i missuse my power as a prefect.....at that time my friend was kicked by a guy.....handsome but naughty.....and i don't know what to do.....so i ask a boy punch him back.....and guess what happen.....haha...i don't believe it that he cry in pain.....now i'm really in big trouble....the teacher is on the way.....i was called and scold....the teacher also gave me a warning.....i was so scared....i tried to apologize but the boy doesn't even look at me.....well i have an attitude to 'not to care' so i don't care if he doesn't want to accept my appologies eventhought in my heart i was scared if he's going to take revenge and try to punch me later.....hoho~_~

in late of standard 3, i was transferred to Kuantan......i really miss my friends in Labuan and hope to see thema again in future.....~_~

DO YOU DESERVE THE LIFE YOU HAD...?? part 2

"IT'S GOOD IF YOU NEVER BEEN BORN!!!"

Some people work hard to let others to notice them....
and for some they want theirselves to be valued.....
I keep on thinking of what would happen to the boy....
(if you don't know who's i'm talking about please refer to my blog post with the same title...)

He works hard to let him know that he is usefull...
Since birth, he never met him, his father....
Everyone said that his to busy with his work....
His mom died a long time ago....
and now he lives with his uncle....
His uncle can't do anything to persuade the boys father to meet him....

Until one day, O's, friend, ask WHY DON'T YOU MEET HIM?? WHY DON'T YOU CARE ABOUT HIM?? HIS YOUR SON RIGHT!!
Everythings change after that day....
The boy try his best to keep a smile infront of everyone eventhough all of them knew what had happen..
Its hard for him not knowing the truth but its much more harder when knowing it...

No one knows the reason for him to live....
His father doesn't want him.....
His mother had long gone....
For others they tought that the boy will commit suicide or something....
but no, he didn't...
he stays calm, live the day like yesterday had never happen....
I feel pain everytime I see his face....
Why do you still putting that kind of face??
For some reason, it make me sick....
Why don't you just cry??
Is it ok to hear that your not worth to live??
Is it ok to be in this world now??

I feel his pain but he still ignoring it....
I don't know how to heal it.....
a heart that has broken,
but now sealed with something hard....
I can't reach him....
I can't see the true him....
the true boy I met before.....

hope he'll survive in this world....

~_~

We never know what the future would be.....

I walk on a road but I don't know where is it heading....
I keep on walking but I don't feel exhausting....
I don't know why I'm still walking but I kept on doing it....
I keep on walking evethough I can't see a thing....
I take every step, walking thorugh the dark, not knowing....
I never ask myself what's infront...
I never tried to ask others but I can't see one....
I realize that I walk this road alone....
I thought that they will be at the end of the road....
I continued walking, walking until my feet feels nothing....
I feel very light and start on dreaming....
I was on a dark road...
I know it's a road eventhough it's dark...
I kept on asking why I'm here?
I can't feel my body...
I can only smell a sweet metal...
I guess what is it....
I thought for a long time....
I inhale the smell and guess....
It's blood!!
I'm sure it is....
But from where??
I try to move my light body around....
Searching and searching....
And this what I found....
A body on the ground!!
Is he or she dead??
I went to the body to have a closer look....
OH MY GOD!!!
I scream....
This isn't true!!!
That's not me, that's not me....
Then, a flash of light from a car hit my eye.....
And all of the sudden it came back to me....
My body feel very pain....
I can feel something hot and sweet smell all over my body....
I have a hard time to breath....
I began to feel very sleepy....
I know it's my time....
So, I'll say bye bye to the world.....
Bye bye to all who knows me...
Bye bye....and bye bye forever................

TOYOTA PRIUS....

The Toyota Prius is a full hybrid electric mid-size car developed and manufactured by the Toyota Motor Corporation. The Prius is the most fuel efficient gas car currently sold in the U.S. according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA and California Air Resources Board (CARB) also rate the Prius as among the cleanest vehicles sold in the United States based on smog forming and toxic emissions.

It first went on sale in Japan in 1997, making it the first mass-produced hybrid vehicle. It was subsequently introduced worldwide in 2001. The Prius is sold in more than 40 countries and regions, with its largest markets being those of Japan and North America. In May 2008, global cumulative Prius sales reached the 1 million vehicle mark, and by August 31, 2008, the Prius reached worldwide cumulative sales of 1.43 million units. As a top seller, the U.S. market made up more than half of the 1.2 million Prius sold worldwide by early 2009.

Aussie News 4 : Surgeon in custody over cocaine deaths

A SYDNEY neurosurgeon remains in custody after being charged with the murder of one woman and the manslaughter of another.

Police have said post-mortem examination results indicate both women died of cocaine toxicity.

In Central Local Court today, Mitchell Cavanagh, lawyer for Suresh Surendranath Nair, said the neurosurgeon was in custody.

Mr Cavanagh said he had spoken to Dr Nair this morning and he would not be appearing in the court in person or via videolink in relation to the two new charges.

The 41-year-old is charged with murdering Suellen Domingues-Zaupa, 22, on November 19 last year at his Elizabeth Bay apartment, in Sydney's east.

Dr Nair also is charged with causing the death of Victoria McIntyre, 23, in circumstances amounting to manslaughter - by an unlawful and dangerous act - on February 15 last year at Elizabeth Bay.

The neurosurgeon is already in custody on a charge of supplying a prohibited drug in relation to the November incident.

He was originally granted bail, but it was revoked after he allegedly breached its conditions, requiring him not to engage in the services of female escorts or consume illegal drugs.

Mr Cavanagh made no application for bail on the new matters and magistrate Kevin Flack adjourned the case to the same court on March 1.

GOOD ONE...

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: 'I am blind, please help.' There were only a few coins in the hat.

A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, 'Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?'

The man said, 'I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way.'

What he had written was: 'Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it.'

Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing?

Of course both signs told people the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind. The second sign told people they were so lucky that they were not blind. Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?

Moral of the Story: Be thankful for what you have. Be creative. Be innovative. Think differently and positively.

Invite others towards good with wisdom. Live life with no excuse and love with no regrets. When life gives you a 100 reasons to cry, show life that you have 1000 reasons to smile. Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear. Keep the faith and drop the fear.

Great men say, 'Life has to be an incessant process of repair and reconstruction, of discarding evil and developing goodness.... In the journey of life, if you want to travel without fear, you must have the ticket of a good conscience.'

The most beautiful thing is to see a person smiling...

And even more beautiful is, knowing that you are the reason behind it!!!

Aussie news 3 :Breastfeeding in public 'embarrassing' for Gen Ys

Australian News.Net

Wednesday 3rd February, 2010 (ANI)

Melbourne, Feb 3 : A study suggests that mums and dads of the future are more likely to be against breastfeeding in the public as they find it embarrassing.

The survey of Generation Y adults, who're likely to have kids in the next five to 10 years, shows they will not be able to fully grasp the benefits of breastfeeding.

The study has sparked calls for a new campaign to promote breastfeeding as culturally acceptable.

The Queensland University of Technology (QUT) surveyed 114 men and 182 women, aged between 18 and 29, online about breastfeeding.

More than 50 per cent of women believed it would be uncomfortable to breastfeed in public, and a majority of men and women did not want their child to be breastfed in public for fear of embarrassment.

And 75 per cent of respondents said it was unlikely their child would be exclusively breastfed for the first six months of life as recommended by the World Health Organisation.

QUT Professor Rebekah Russell-Bennett said the survey showed the need for a new campaign to promote breastfeeding to young adults.

"In Australia less than half of Australian infants receive any breast milk at six months and only 18 per cent were being exclusively breastfed," the Australian quoted Prof Russell-Bennett as saying.

"The study found while 34.5 percent had been exclusively breastfed for at least four to six months, only 22.6 percent were considering exclusively breastfeeding until at least six months," she added.

Prof Russell-Bennett said the study showed both young men and women did not understand the benefits of breastfeeding and perceived bottle feeding as convenient and easier.

BREAKING THE CODE OF RUBIK~~

HEY THERE~~
WELL I'M NOT AN EXPERT IN RUBIK...
BUT MY FRIENDS TAUGHT ME HOW TO SOLVE IT...
HERE'S THE STEP ON HOW TO BREAK THE CODE OF RUBIK....

STEP 1....
CHOOSE A COLOUR AT THE CENTRE AS YOUR TOP....

THEN, MAKE A + OF THAT COLOUR...

AFTER THAT, MATCH THE COLOUR OF THE CENTRE OF EVERY SIDES LIKE THESE....
FIRST SIDE....

SECOND SIDES....

THIRD SIDES....

AND THE FOURTH SIDES....

THEN, INSERT ALL THE YELLOW ONTO THE TOP....
ITS BETTER IF THE YELLOW IS AT THE FIRST LINE FROM THE BOTTOM....
REMEMEBR YOUR TOP IS THE YELLOW ONE...

LET START WITH THE FOURTH SIDE...
THERE IS TWO YELLOW RIGHT?
THEN TRY TO SEE WHATS BESIDE IT....

IT'S RED RIGHT...
SO TURN IT TO THE RED SIDE...THAT IS OUR FIRST SIDE...
TO BRING THE YELLOW UP, WE HAVE TO 'SAVE' THE TOP TO THE RIGHT AS WE WANT TO TURN THE YELLOW UP AT THE LEFT....
LIKE THIS....

AFTER THAT, THEN YOU TURN AND BRING THE YELLOW UP (THE TOP)....

THIS CONTINUE UNTIL YOU MANAGE TO FILL THE TOP WITH ALL YELLOW.....
REMEMBER IF YOU WANT TO TURN UP ON LEFT, YOU SAVE THE TOP AT THE RIGHT AND VICE VERSA!!!

YOUR RUBIK SHOUL LOOK LIKE THESE....
THE TOP AND THE FIRST LINE FROM THE TOP IS COMPLETE....

STEP 2....
TURN YOUR RUBIK AND CHANGE THE TOP ONE AS YOUR BOTTOM....
SO YOUR TOP NOW IS BLACK (LOOK THE CENTRE OF THE RUBIK)

NOW WE'RE GOING TO COMPLETE THE SECOND LINE....
SO FIRST LOOK FROM THE TOP IN FORM OF + SHAPE....
CHOOSE THE ONE WITH NO BLACK...
LIKE FROM THE DIAGRAM ABOVE I'LL CHOOSE GREEN...

YOU TURN THE COLOUR BESIDE IT (ORANGE) UNTIL IT MATCH WITH IT SIDES....

Aussie News 2 :Corruption inquiry hears murdered developer McGurk's 'damning' recording

MURDERED Sydney standover man Michael McGurk and property developer Ron Medich discussed making payments to senior NSW government figures, a corruption inquiry has been told.

The conversation was allegedly recorded by Mr McGurk via a digital audio device hidden in his pocket during a meeting in Sydney's York St on February 6, 2009.

An inquiry into Mr McGurk's murder and related Sydney business dealings are the centre of an Independent Commission Against Corruption hearing that began today.

A short section of the tape was played at the hearing, which is investigating 13 allegations of bribery and corrupt dealings which surfaced after Mr McGurk was gunned down outside his Sydney home on September 3, 2009.

The tape excerpt played today contained a section of conversation between Mr McGurk and Mr Medich in which they discussed payments being made to senior NSW civil servants relating to a property development.

Mr McGurk believed the tape contained explosive bribery allegations capable of bringing down state MPs and senior civil servants.

But counsel assisting the commission, Jeremy Gormly SC, told the hearing he did not believe the tape contained allegations as serious as Mr McGurk believed, which he conveyed to others before his death.

Mr Medich has previously denied that he knew anything about a plot to murder Mr McGurk.

The hearing is expected to last three days.

Aussie news 1 : Hot events program for Australia Day

25 Jan, 2010 07:57 AM

With temperatures set to peak at 36 degrees tomorrow Mayor Paul Toole has issued a reminder for everyone to do the Aussie thing and pop on a hat and slop on plenty of sunscreen before they head off to Australia Day events.

Australia Day will be celebrated in the region from Eglinton to Bathurst Goldfields and the historic village of Rockley to Bicentennial Park on the banks of the Macquarie River.

A wide variety of activities have been organised throughout the day to ensure there is something for all ages at a time that suits everyone.

“Australia Day is a time when, as a nation, we can come together and celebrate what’s great about Australia and being an Australian,” Cr Toole said.

“Taking part in the celebrations is a way in which we can reflect on what we’ve achieved personally and what we can be proud of as a nation.

“Council has planned a fantastic Australia Day celebration for the whole community,” he said.

The day begins early at Eglinton with the traditional flag raising ceremony and barbecue breakfast from 8.00am.

The Eglinton Hall Committee has also organised a number of activities for children of all ages.

“Eglinton’s War Memorial Hall has just completed its renovations and Australia Day is the perfect opportunity to showcase it to local residents,” Cr Toole said.

Seventeen people will commit to becoming Australian citizens at this year’s naturalisation ceremony at the Bathurst Goldfields from 10.00am.

“This is a very proud moment for me,” Cr Toole said.

“To see these individuals and families making a commitment to be an Australian is something very moving, and Australia Day is the perfect time to do it.”

This year the village celebrations will be held at the Rockley sportsground from 11.00am to 2.00pm. The community has organised a number of activities including stalls, displays and local music. A free barbecue lunch will also be included.

A community bus will travel to and from Rockley for a small donation. The bus will leave Bathurst Visitor Information Centre car park at 10.30am. To book a seat, contact the centre on 1800 68 1000.

Celebrations continue at Bicentennial Park from 3:00pm. There will be plenty of live entertainment taking place on the Australia Day stage.

The official part of the day will see Bathurst’s Australia Day Ambassador, Peter Wilkins making his address, alongside the Citizen of the Year and the Young Citizen of the Year.

The Australia Day Open Air Cinema will this year screen Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian.
